SN 1.61  Nāma sutta - Name

“Kiṁsu sabbaṁ addhabhavi,
kismā bhiyyo na vijjati;
Kissassu ekadhammassa,
sabbeva vasamanvagū”ti.

“What has |weighed down::overpowered, overwhelmed [addhabhavi]| everything?
Beyond what is there nothing further?
What is the one thing
that has everything under its sway?”

“Nāmaṁ sabbaṁ addhabhavi,
nāmā bhiyyo na vijjati;
Nāmassa ekadhammassa,
sabbeva vasamanvagū”ti.

[The Blessed One]: “|Name::mental objects of consciousness; mentality; mental factors of feeling, perception, intention, contact and attention [nāma]| has weighed down everything,
beyond name, there is nothing further;
Name is the one thing
that has everything under its sway.”
