2.) They give what is excellent,

kālena deti,

3.) They give at the proper time,

kappiyaṁ deti,

4.) They give what is suitable,

viceyya deti,

5.) They give with discernment,

abhiṇhaṁ deti,

6.) They give frequently,

dadaṁ cittaṁ pasādeti,

7.) When giving, they gladden the mind,

datvā attamano hoti.

8.) Having given, they are |pleased::satisfied [attamana]|.

Imāni kho, bhikkhave, aṭṭha sappurisadānānīti.

These, bhikkhus, are the eight gifts of a true person.

Suciṁ paṇītaṁ kālena,
kappiyaṁ pānabhojanaṁ;
Abhiṇhaṁ dadāti dānaṁ,
sukhettesu brahmacārisu.

They give what is pure, excellent, at the proper time,
allowable drink and food;
They give gifts often,
to spiritual practitioners in fertile fields of merit.

Neva vippaṭisārissa,
cajitvā āmisaṁ bahuṁ;
Evaṁ dinnāni dānāni,
vaṇṇayanti vipassino.

They are not regretful,
having given up much |material wealth::worldly gain [āmisa]|;
Gifts given in this way,
are praised by those who see clearly.

Evaṁ yajitvā medhāvī,
saddho muttena cetasā;
Abyābajjhaṁ sukhaṁ lokaṁ,
paṇḍito upapajjatī”ti.

Is reborn in a blissful world,
free from affliction and without suffering.
