“Tīṇimāni, bhikkhave, paṇḍitapaññattāni sappurisapaññattāni.
¶ 1“Mendicants, these three things are recommended by astute true persons.
Katamāni tīṇi?
¶ 2What three?
Dānaṁ, bhikkhave, paṇḍitapaññattaṁ sappurisapaññattaṁ.
¶ 3Giving,
Pabbajjā, bhikkhave, paṇḍitapaññattā sappurisapaññattā.
¶ 4going forth,
Mātāpitūnaṁ, bhikkhave, upaṭṭhānaṁ paṇḍitapaññattaṁ sappurisapaññattaṁ.
¶ 5and taking care of your mother and father.
Imāni kho, bhikkhave, tīṇi paṇḍitapaññattāni sappurisapaññattānīti.
¶ 6These are the three things recommended by astute true persons.
Sabbhi dānaṁ upaññattaṁ,
¶ 7The virtuous recommend giving,
ahiṁsā saṁyamo damo;
¶ 8harmlessness, restraint, and self-control;
Mātāpitu upaṭṭhānaṁ,
¶ 9caring for mother and father,
santānaṁ brahmacārinaṁ.
¶ 10and peaceful spiritual practitioners.
Sataṁ etāni ṭhānāni,
¶ 11These are the things recommended by the good,
yāni sevetha paṇḍito;
¶ 12which the astute should cultivate.
Ariyo dassanasampanno,
¶ 13A noble one, having vision,
sa lokaṁ bhajate sivan”ti.
¶ 14will enjoy a world of grace.”
