The Buddha teaches the five powers of a lady—attractiveness, wealth, relatives, children, and ethical behavior—and how a lady with all five has her husband under her thumb.
“Pañcimāni, bhikkhave, mātugāmassa balāni. Katamāni pañca? Rūpabalaṁ, bhogabalaṁ, ñātibalaṁ, puttabalaṁ, sīlabalaṁ— imāni kho, bhikkhave, pañca mātugāmassa balāni. Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi balehi samannāgato mātugāmo sāmikaṁ pasayha agāraṁ ajjhāvasatī”ti.

“Mendicants, there are these five powers of a lady.
Katamāni pañca?
What five?
Rūpabalaṁ, bhogabalaṁ, ñātibalaṁ, puttabalaṁ, sīlabalaṁ—
Attractiveness, wealth, relatives, children, and ethical behavior.
imāni kho, bhikkhave, pañca mātugāmassa balāni.
These are the five powers of a lady.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, pañcahi balehi samannāgato mātugāmo sāmikaṁ pasayha agāraṁ ajjhāvasatī”ti.
A lady living at home with these five powers has her husband under her thumb.”
