The Buddha teaches that desire and greed for craving for sights, sounds, smells, tastes, touches, and ideas is a corruption of the mind that must be abandoned so the mind inclines to renunciation and becomes fit for realizing anything attainable by insight.
Sāvatthinidānaṁ.
“Yo, bhikkhave, rūpataṇhāya chandarāgo, cittasseso upakkileso. Yo saddataṇhāya … yo gandhataṇhāya … yo rasataṇhāya … yo phoṭṭhabbataṇhāya … yo dhammataṇhāya chandarāgo, cittasseso upakkileso. Yato kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno …pe… abhiññā sacchikaraṇīyesu dhammesū”ti.
