The Buddha teaches that desire and greed for intentions regarding sights, sounds, smells, tastes, touches, and ideas is a corruption of the mind that must be abandoned so the mind inclines to renunciation and becomes fit for realizing anything attainable by insight.

“Yo, bhikkhave, rūpasañcetanāya chandarāgo, cittasseso upakkileso. Yo saddasañcetanāya … yo gandhasañcetanāya … yo rasasañcetanāya … yo phoṭṭhabbasañcetanāya … yo dhammasañcetanāya chandarāgo, cittasseso upakkileso. Yato kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno …pe… abhiññā sacchikaraṇīyesu dhammesū”ti.
