Discourses
When Venerable Uttara teaches mendicants to check their own and others' failings and successes, King Vessavaṇa reports it to Sakka, who comes to ask whether the teaching is his own inspiration; Uttara answers with the simile of grain taken from a heap and passes on the Buddha's teaching on how eight things, ending in bad friendship, drove Devadatta to hell.
