The Buddha teaches a repeated formula on four meditators distinguished by skill in immersion and five on support and territory, etc., declaring the one skilled in both to be foremost, applied across this grouped discourse.

Sāvatthinidānaṁ

“samādhismiṁ ārammaṇakusalo hoti, na samādhismiṁ gocarakusalosamādhismiṁ gocarakusalo hoti, na samādhismiṁ ārammaṇakusaloneva samādhismiṁ ārammaṇakusalo hoti, na ca samādhismiṁ gocarakusalosamādhismiṁ ārammaṇakusalo ca hoti, samādhismiṁ gocarakusalo ca. Tatra, bhikkhave, yvāyaṁ jhāyī …pe… uttamo ca pavaro cā”ti.
