The Buddha teaches on that which is not-self, applying the analysis of the five aggregates—form, feeling, perception, choices, and consciousness—to insight and release.

SN 22.17 That Which is Not-Self -

Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

“Rūpaṁ, bhikkhave, anattā. Yadanattā taṁ ‘netaṁ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attā’ti evametaṁ yathābhūtaṁ sammappaññāya daṭṭhabbaṁ.

Vedanā anattā

saññā anattā

saṅkhārā anattā

viññāṇaṁ anattā. Yadanattā taṁ ‘netaṁ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attā’ti evametaṁ yathābhūtaṁ sammappaññāya daṭṭhabbaṁ.

Evaṁ passaṁ, bhikkhave …pe… nāparaṁ itthattāyā’ti pajānātī”ti.

“Mendicants, form is not-self.

Yadanattā taṁ ‘netaṁ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attā’ti evametaṁ yathābhūtaṁ sammappaññāya daṭṭhabbaṁ.

And what’s not-self should be truly seen with right understanding like this: ‘This is not mine, I am not this, this is not my self.’

Feeling is not-self …

saññā anattā

Perception is not-self …

saṅkhārā anattā

Choices are not-self …

viññāṇaṁ anattā.

Consciousness is not-self.

Yadanattā taṁ ‘netaṁ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attā’ti evametaṁ yathābhūtaṁ sammappaññāya daṭṭhabbaṁ.

And what’s not-self should be truly seen with right understanding like this: ‘This is not mine, I am not this, this is not my self.’

Seeing this …

nāparaṁ itthattāyā’ti pajānātī”ti.

They understand: ‘… there is nothing further for this place.’”
