Mallas of Pāvāperson

Following the death of the Jain leader Nigaṇṭha Nāṭaputta at Pāvā and the bitter schism among his followers, the Buddha invites Venerable Sāriputta to address the bhikkhus. To ensure harmony and preserve the teaching after the Buddha’s passing, Sāriputta systematically sets forth the Dhamma in numerical sets from ones to tens for the Saṅgha to recite in concert without dispute.
