Brahmin Doṇaperson
1 discourse
Doṇa the brahmin followed a set of wheel footprints to their end and found the Buddha seated there; asked what he was, he heard the definition that named a Buddha for the ages, one whose defilements are ended like a lotus unclung by water (AN 4.36). He pressed the Buddha on respect for elderly brahmins and left asking to be remembered as a follower (AN 5.192); at Kusinārā it was Doṇa who divided the relics into eight equal portions and stopped the war over them (DN 16).
Discourses
The Buddha’s final journey from Rājagaha to Kusinārā, detailing the conditions for non-decline, his illness and relinquishment of the life force, his last instructions to the Saṅgha, his final Nibbāna between the twin sāla trees, the cremation, and the distribution of the relics.
