The Buddha describes the nine individuals—the perfected one and the one practicing for perfection, the non-returner and the one practicing to realize the fruit of non-return, the once-returner and the one practicing to realize the fruit of once-return, and the stream-enterer and the one practicing to realize the fruit of stream-entry, and and the ordinary person.
“Navayime, bhikkhave, puggalā santo saṁvijjamānā lokasmiṁ. Katame nava? Arahā, arahattāya paṭipanno, anāgāmī, anāgāmiphalasacchikiriyāya paṭipanno, sakadāgāmī, sakadāgāmiphalasacchikiriyāya paṭipanno, sotāpanno, sotāpattiphalasacchikiriyāya paṭipanno, puthujjano— ime kho, bhikkhave, nava puggalā santo saṁvijjamānā lokasmin”ti.
